Amazon India aims to promote the small and moderate business or start-ups around the country to reach their millions of populations. This will help boost the revenue, as well as productivity. The company first started in February 2012, when they launched a website called Junglee.com (meaning people who live in Jungle). The purpose of the site was initially to let people compare the prices, but they were not allowed to purchase any product straightaway.

However, due to popular demand, they started to sell books, movies, and TV shows. Later, they also added mobile phones and digital cameras within a few weeks. India has one of the biggest populations in the world, and hence Amazon knew what they wanted. They could give a healthy competition to state-based Reliance, and of course Walmart. According to reports, India has approximately 50 million active internet users, and roughly 40%-50% people among them prefer online purchases due to several factors such as busy job schedule, traffic congestion, inconsistent weather, and so on.

When a customer orders something through Amazon India, the product is delivered to a warehouse in Mumbai. Then Amazon takes care of the rest to ship the product at the doorstep. Sometimes people can also become eligible to get free shipping service from Amazon, but it may vary based on specific requirements. However, due to a strict policy, Amazon cannot sell their own products in India, rather the deal has to be made through users-to-users basis.
